Richard Scher the dermatology professor at Cornell University says that cuticles appear for a reason like a barrier or the protection of the nail matrix. Nails grow from the area under your cuticles and they are composed of a laminated layer of a protein called keratin. Healthy nails are smooth, without grooves and free of discoloration sometimes nails develop harmless vertical ridges that run from the cuticle to the tip of the nail and these vertical ridges tend to become more prominent with the age.

Keep your fingernails always dry and clean because it prevents bacteria growing under fingernails. You should rubber gloves while working with water because repeated and prolonged contact with water can contribute to split fingernails. And chemicals found in detergent soaps and washing powder can damage your hands and nails badly they make your nails weaker and give nasty burns.
While using a hand lotion or cream you should apply it on your nails too and keep them moisture. Massage your nails and cuticles with warm olive oil because oil helps to repair damage and help to soften nails and cuticles and also help to moisturize the nails so apply warm oil massage and leave it for 15 minutes and wash it off with water.
And always use a sharp manicure scissor or clipper to trim the nails and you should trim your nails straight across, then round the tips in a gentle curve and don’t cut and manipulate your cuticles because it is the natural barrier to fungus or bacteria and you lose the protection by cutting cuticles.
To get stronger nail apply a calcium gel and nail hardener on your nails because these things can really make your nails strong and research suggest that you should take food supplement contains biotin because biotin helps strengthen weak or brittle fingernails.
Avoid acetone nail polish remover because it strips the nails and causing them to become brittle. You should go for manicure twice in a month and never use metal nail filer to give shape to your nails because it can damage your nails. Nail polish or nail paint enhance the beauty of nails and hands but while choosing a nail paint you should avoid to choose dark colors because dark paints can cause chapping and fading of the natural color of your nails.
